foam filled roller shutter machine

A foam-filled roller shutter machine produces a shaped metal slat and introduces polyurethane foam into the profile to improve rigidity and insulation behavior. The forming and foaming processes must be balanced because material temperature, line speed, chemical ratio and slat geometry influence filling quality.

The project begins with the finished slat, required density and performance. It should not be specified as a standard roll former with a foam unit added later without reviewing space, timing, ventilation and quality controls.

Form the outer metal shell

Pre-painted aluminum or steel strip is guided through rolls that create the curved body and interlocking edges. Surface protection is critical because the slat is normally a visible finished component. The tooling must provide enough support for the profile while leaving the cavity suitable for filling.

Meter and inject polyurethane

The PU system controls component ratio, temperature, pressure and flow. Injection location and profile speed should fill the cavity consistently without voids, leakage or distortion. Chemical suppliers and machine engineers should agree on the processing window and safe handling requirements.

Cure, support and cut the profile

The slat needs sufficient support while foam expands and cures. Cutting too early can deform the profile or contaminate tools, while excessive dwell increases line length. The cut-off and run-out system must protect the finished surface and maintain the programmed length.

Control foam and profile quality

Inspect profile geometry, surface condition, foam density, adhesion, cavity fill and cut ends. Samples should cover startup and stable production. Temperature and material changes should be recorded because they can shift the process even when machine settings remain unchanged.

Project specification checklist

A dependable proposal must be based on the actual profile drawing, material specification, production mix and acceptance criteria. YCS evaluates each project as an engineered production system. Review the roller shutter machine solutions or send your technical requirements to YCS Machinery.

Frequently asked questions

Can an existing slat line be converted to foam filling?

Sometimes, but profile geometry, speed, available space, controls, safety and cut-off suitability require an engineering review.

What causes voids in the foam?

Possible causes include incorrect ratio or temperature, unstable flow, unsuitable injection position, contamination and insufficient process control.
