A T-bar roll forming machine produces the main runners and cross tees used in suspended ceiling grids. These profiles may look light, but connector geometry, straightness, surface appearance and repeatable module dimensions are essential for fast installation and a level finished ceiling.
Metal ceiling systems can also include linear slats, carriers, perimeter angles and decorative panels. Each profile family requires a production concept based on material, visible surface, perforations, end features and required output.
Main runner and cross tee production
Main runners carry the grid and cross tees lock into them at defined spacing. Lines may integrate coil feeding, punching, roll forming, connector creation and cut-to-length. The interface between profiles must be validated as a complete ceiling system, not as isolated dimensions.
Punching and integral connectors
Slots, holes and end connectors require accurate pitch and position. Pre-punching is common, followed by forming and an end-working station. Tooling must account for material movement during forming so that assembled grid dimensions remain correct.
Visible surfaces and straightness
Pre-painted strip requires clean guides, polished contact areas and supported handling. Twist, camber or damaged paint becomes visible across a ceiling installation. Inspection should combine profile measurements with actual connection and grid-assembly tests.
Packaging and line balance
High-speed lines need counting, bundling and packaging capacity that matches production. Different main-runner and cross-tee quantities must be balanced against the ceiling-system bill of materials. Packaging should protect connectors and decorative faces during shipment.
Ceiling profile families
| Profile | Key control |
|---|---|
| Main runner | Load, straightness and connector pitch |
| Cross tee | End-hook fit and module length |
| Linear slat | Surface and visual alignment |
| Carrier/perimeter | Fit with the complete ceiling system |

Frequently asked questions
Can one line produce both main runners and cross tees?
It may require dedicated tooling modules or separate lines because the profile and connector operations differ. Capacity balance is also important.
Why test assembled ceiling grids?
Individual dimensions do not always reveal accumulated pitch, connector or straightness problems that appear during installation.
